Symbol of the Church of Satan Church of Satan or the Church of Satan as expressed in book The Satanic Bible, written in 1969 by Anton LaVey, is an organization dedicated to the acceptance of human bodily (Man's carnal self).

The Church of Satan was founded in San Francisco, California, on the night of Walpurgis 30 April 1966 by Anton Szandor LaVey. Anton LaVey became High Priest of the church until his death in 1997.
In the 1950s, Anton LaVey formed a group called The Order of the Trapezoid, which later became the governing body of the Church of Satan. People who engage in activities LaVey includes Carin de Plessen (who grew up in the royal palace of Denmark), Dr. Cecil Nixon (magician, eccentric, and the inventor of the automaton), director Kenneth Anger, City Assessor Russell Wolden, Donald Werby, anthropologist Michael Harner, and writer Shana Alexander. Other LaVey colleagues at that time include the writer of horror fiction and science fiction Anthony Boucher, August Derleth, Robert Barbour Johnson, Reginald Bretnor, Emil Petaja, Stuart Palmer, Clark Ashton Smith, Forrest J. Ackerman, and Fritz Leiber Jr.
In the first year of its formation, Anton LaVey and the Church of Satan get great media attention by publicly perform marriage ceremonies between Judith Case Satan with radical journalist John Raymond. The wedding ceremony was photographed by Joe Rosenthal's famous photograph Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima during World War II. Other events also attract attention are members of the Church of Satan funeral ceremony, Edward Olson who is also a Navy officer by his wife's request.
The Church of Satan was mentioned in many books and is the subject of magazine articles and newspaper during the 1960s and 1970s. He is also the main subject of the documentary film Satanist (1970). LaVey also appeared in the films of Kenneth Anger, Invocation of my Demon Brother, and technical advisory role in the movie The Devil's Rain (starring Ernest Borgnine, William Shatner, and John Travolta).
In 1975, LaVey created controversy in the Church of Satan itself by eliminating system "Grotto" Church and excluded people he considers using this as an achievement of the Church in the world outside. At the same time, LaVey became more selective in accepting the interview. Activities are "closed" This then led to rumors that this church has been closed or LaVey died.
In the 1980s, the Christians, the therapist who specialized in the recovery of memory, and the media brought up the back conspiracy offense connected with the Church of Satan. Members of the Church of Satan as Peter H. Gilmore, Peggy Nadramia, Boyd Rice, Adam Parfrey, Diabolos Rex, and King Diamond, active in the mass media to refute the allegations of criminal activity. The FBI then issued an official statement denying the criminal conspiracy theories. This phenomenon became known as "The Satanic Panic".
In the 1980s and 1990s, the Church of Satan and its members are very active in producing movies, music, and magazines related to Satanism.

After the death of Anton Szandor LaVey, his position as head of the Church of Satan passed on by his wife, Blanche Barton. Barton remains involved in the activity of this Church; but in 2001 he handed over his position to Peter H. Gilmore and Peggy Nadramia. Headquarters of the Church of Satan was also moved from San Francisco to New York City. The Church of Satan does not acknowledge other organizations as the legitimate holder of Satanism, but recognizes that a person does not have to be a member of the Church of Satan to be a Satanist.
Many public figures who publicly became a member of the Church of Satan, including Kenneth Anger, King Diamond, Teresa hidy, David Vincent, Marilyn Manson, Aaron Joehlin, Boyd Rice, Marc Almond, guitarist Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio and drummer Derek Grant, professional wrestler Balls Mahoney, Sterling James Keenan, journalist Michael Moynihan, pianist Liberace, guitarist Matthew McRaith, and Sammy Davis Jr. Therefore the Church of Satan has never publicly disclose its membership information, it is unknown how many members of this Church.
In October 2004, the Navy Great Britain formally recognized the registration of members of his generation as a Satanist.
